We had some significant wins at county and senate district conventions yesterday. SD 60 took a majority of the delegates, as did Wright County. Other BPOUs also had good numbers, pulling in a third of so of the delegates to Congressional District and State conventions.

The Wright County GOP blog had this to say about our people:

Ron Paul’s loyal followers were in attendance and garnered a significant number of delegate and alternate positions to the CD6 and State Conventions. Considering they bothered to organize and operated politely within the rules of the convention I think we have to acknowledge their efforts and encourage their engagement in the party.

Everyone did a fantastic job Tuesday night! We elected many delegates, more than the straw poll indicates, as you guys stuck around, voted for and ran for delegates. In many precincts where Romney won the straw poll, we still won a majority of delegates.

We’re on to Step Two: election of delegates from the local conventions to the Congressional District and State conventions.

If you were elected delegate or alternate from your caucus, you need to attend your County or Senate District convention, for which you have already received a convention call, or soon will. These will be held as early as February 23 and into March.

We will be going through much the same process as with the caucuses. You will receive a list of fellow supporters also elected delegate or alternate, and you need to coordinate amongst yourselves (with our help) to elect a full slate to the next conventions.

We are still trying to get a picture of where our delegate strength lies, and will be getting a full delegate list from the MN GOP next week. Then we will need your to help us call and identify whom the other delegates support, as many Ron Paul supporters are still not in our database.

If you were not elected delegate, we can still use your help with your local convention. If you have a lawn sign, literature and/or stickers, be prepared to take them to that convention.

We think we’re going to elect 9 or more national delegates out of Minnesota, so stay tuned for further news and directions.

Thank you all for your dedication and excellent work. It has and will continue to pay off!

(I apologize that I am not able to personally respond to email right now. At this point, I am trying to get through the thousands of caucus reports you all have been so good to send.)

It’s getting exciting in Minnesota!

Supporters across the state are making phone calls to get out the vote, Ron Paul is becoming a hot topic on talk radio, and we are expecting over 2,000 supporters at the rally in Minneapolis tomorrow.

We can win here in Minnesota, but only if you bring your friends and family and attend your caucus this Tuesday, February 5th @ 7pm. We recommend you get there 30 minutes early.

If you do not know where you caucus is located please visit the Minnesota GOP’s website: http://www.mngop.com/pf/
Or call us at 612.886.1990

Every caucus location will run a little bit different. Here is the typical schedule:
1. Formalities (Pledge of Allegiance, elect a chairperson, recruit election judges, etc.)
2. Discussion of candidates and Presidential Straw Poll
3. Nominations and election of Precinct Officers
4. Nominations and election of Delegate and Alternates
5. Discussion of resolutions and issues.

**For Ron Paul supporters, it is most important that we elect as many Delegates and Alternates as we can**

If you are having trouble getting your friends and family in your precinct to vote for Ron Paul, then encourage them to attend and vote for you for delegate as a personal favor.

Bring with you the list of fellow supporters in your precinct that you should have received by email, but be prepared to vote for other supporters who may not be on your list. (If there are supporters who have not arrived by 6:45, call them.) Pay attention to the rules in the event you need to vote for more delegates than what you have on your list.

If you need to vote for additional people, determine which delegate candidates are at least undecided and agree with Ron Paul’s ideals. If you have more supporters than delegate spots, agree ahead of time which supporters you will vote for as delegate. We can’t afford to split our votes.

Sign up on the “self-nomination” form if it is available, and have other supporters do the same.

Because there are supporters who have not signed up with the campaign, we are now encouraging everyone to wear a button or put on a lapel sticker at the caucus so you may identify each other. (Lapel stickers will be included in the caucus packets that should be picked up at the rally tonight.)

Feel free to uproot your lawn sign temporarily to plant outside the caucus if you can arrive by 6:30. If you have extra official literature around (not the independent version), bring it with you in case our planned literature does not make it there. Leave the literature for the undecideds. There likely won’t be enough for us supporters.

Do dress conservatively - no tshirts - and behave in a professional manner, respectful of everyone including the convener. It is too late at this time to educate attending Republicans on the Federal Reserve or the follies of the war. Promote Ron Paul as the pro-life, pro-gun, pro-home-schooling, anti-tax, anti-big-government, anti-illegal-immigration candidate. At this point, you just want their vote. Arguing will not accomplish that.

A caucus speech and convener letter will also be included in the caucus packet. Ask for permission to read the short speech as soon as you arrive. If they won’t allow this, give the convener the letter to be read.

Be sure there is at least one Ron Paul supporter designated to watch the ballots being counted. Please report your straw poll and delegate results to the campaign by emailing Minnesota@ronpaul2008.com.

Stay to the very end and be sure the caucus properly adjourns (make the motion to adjourn yourself, if no one else does). Although not likely, it is possible that parliamentary procedures at the end could wipe out all your hard work.

We won’t win every precinct, nor do we need to. Each delegate we do win is very valuable, so remember that this is your goal. Again, find two or more people in your precinct you can convince to come and vote for YOU.

Minnesota is a target state for us on Feb. 5. We anticipate a great surprise, but only if we double our efforts this last week before the caucus. Can I count on you to help us win Minnesota?

Volunteers

First, the campaign headquarters in Minneapolis is in great need of volunteers. There is plenty of work to be done, but most importantly we need at least 10-15 volunteers every night from 5:30-9pm to make phone calls and during the day to canvass. Our success in Nevada was based on our dedicated grassroots supporters volunteering at the office.

To help us win, please call (952) 470-8090 or stop by the office at:

2208 Washington Ave N.
Minneapolis, MN 55414

Hit the press hard!

We have launched a large media campaign in Minnesota. On Monday, we started four TV and radio ads airing across the state. Tune in and hopefully you’ll catch one or two! As of today, we are the only Republican campaign broadcasting TV and radio ads here.

Please help us create a grassroots buzz with the media. Letters to the editor and calls to talk radio are a great way to inform the press that we are here to win. Can you commit yourself to writing a letter to the editor to your local paper and call your local talk radio station?

Here are a couple links to find the talk radio station and newspaper near you.

Minnesota radio - http://www.newslink.org/mnradi.html

Minnesota newspapers - http://mnnews.com/countylist.html

Please remember to remain professional at all times and talk about issues that resonate with Minnesotans. Talk about your Ron Paul story. Why do you support this campaign?

What is your Ron Paul story?

If you have a unique or interesting Ron Paul story, and/or if you are working countless hours to get Ron Paul elected, we want to hear from you! The media loves a local story with a personal touch, so we would like to tell the local media about you and the work you are doing. Email david.hoyt@ronpaul2008.com with your story, and we will pitch it to the media. If they want to write a story about you, we’ll be in touch.

Thanks again for your tireless efforts and commitment to Ron Paul. We are in this to win. Only 7 days until the caucus so spend every spare moment to recruit more support.

So we need boots on the ground this weekend, and phones to ears throughout the next week.

* We will again meet at the MN HQ 9:30 AM this Saturday and Sunday mornings to join the other troops in canvassing targeted precincts.

* And we are asking those who understand the caucus system and our strategy to some degree to come in to call existing supporters to be sure they understand that they need to show up at 7 PM on February 5 at their local GOP precinct caucus. To help us with these calls, we need you from 5 - 9 PM (or anytime in between) at the office beginning on Monday.

The office location is 2208 Washington Ave N, 2 blocks north of Broadway on the east frontage road of I-94. The phone number there is 612-886-1990.

If you have not yet hit your own precinct, sign up at voters.ronpaul2008.com for a walking list, and stop by the office for literature.

If you still have questions about the caucus process, view our presentation at http://www.hopeformn.com/media (Username: Grover ~ Password: Cleveland)

One and a half weeks to give it all we’ve got. Ron Paul is counting on Minnesota. Thank you in advance for your extra effort over the next few days.

Paul Dorr is available to speak on local radio stations and in your town if you are willing to put together an event on your college campus, in the back room of the pizza joint or the like. It’s best if we can string these events together over a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. So get in touch with me if you’re willing to organize such an event so we can coordinate his schedule. Also get in touch to suggest local radio shows that might be good for interviews and include the contact info for the hosts.

A variety to choose from, all involving getting literature out to the masses: this weekend a little smarter, a little more targeted, due to the lateness of the hour and the coldness of the weather:

1. Hitting Pheasant Fest at the Excel in St Paul Friday or Saturday (We’d suggest dropping one “Gunowners for Ron Paul” slim jim at each vendor table. These are the people who talk to other people. We probably won’t be able to hit up the attendees. There’s an admission fee — I don’t know how much — so be prepared for that.)

2. Meeting at the office for lit dropping Sat and Sunday 9:30 AM Because it will be cold, we’ll use driving teams to hit targeted houses only. One person can drive, letting the passenger out to run lit up to the targeted houses, and they can trade off every half hour or so.

3. Running Veterans for Paul lit to Metro area VFWs and American Legions. If you’re a veteran, this is an especially good task. Non-veterans can also do this.

4. Dropping Pro-life literature at conservative (pro-life) churches on Sunday. Obviously, we don’t want these going to liberal churches with non-pro-life members.

5. Phoning from the office to existing supporters in precincts without captains to a) be sure they know to go to the caucus and b) see if they’d like to serve as precinct captain. If you have free weekend minutes on your cell phone, bring it with, as we only have 2 lines in the office.

Best option for all of the above is to meet at the office (2208
Washington Ave N, Minneapolis) at 9:30 Saturday and Sunday, but if you’d prefer to pick up literature before then, come by the office, and let us know which of the above you’re doing and where so we don’t double up.

Additionally, the Constitution Party is having a dinner Saturday night featuring Larry Pratt, head of Gun Owners of America, as a speaker. We’ll have an information table there, but we don’t need any more volunteers for that, so attend just for fun if you’d like. It’s too late to RSVP for the dinner, but you can show up just to listen to the speaker for $20. (5 PM - 6 PM social hour; 6 PM - 6:45 dinner; 6:45
PM - 8:30 speakers. Location: Shakopee VFW, 1201 3rd Ave E)

The Minnesota caucuses will be held in three and a half weeks on Super Tuesday, February 5. That gives us, essentially, three weeks to gain the additional supporters we need and to ensure that they understand the caucus system.

Many, if not most, of MN Ron Paul supporters have never been to a caucus before, so I’d like to explain the process.

(A short, 3-minute video presentation is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvPWTHUdYPE)

A Ron Paul nomination relies on national delegates being elected from as many of the states as possible. In Minnesota, 38 of our 41 national delegates are elected from the Congressional District and State conventions. The delegates to those conventions are elected from the county and senate district conventions held in February and March, and - here’s where you come in - the delegates to those conventions are elected from the precinct caucuses.

So we all need to show up at the GOP precinct caucuses at 7 PM on February 5 to elect each other on up to the next level. For this to happen, we must know who all of our supporters are so the precinct captains can tell each of you whom to vote for as delegate out of your caucuses. (If you know someone who is a supporter, be sure they have signed up at www.ronpaul2008.com/join.)

For the next three weekends, we need to get literature out into targeted precincts. (We only need to win half the precincts in half the counties or senate districts, roughly, so we are targeting where we think we’ll be most effective.) We meet at the office at 9:30 AM on Saturdays and Sundays and head out from here. (Check the blog at www.ronpaul2008.com/states/mn for updates.)

We do still need many precinct captains, so if you’re interested, let me know. And if you have any experience with the caucus/convention process, we may be able to use you as a County or Senate District Coordinator. Email me here.

This is crunch time, folks. We fully intend to win Minnesota for Ron Paul, but can only make that happen with your help!
