Orwellian tactics coming to a school near you?

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Some school kids in Texas are being tracked by GPS to make sure they attend.  Of course, there are several ways to deal with kids who skip school other than tracking them with GPS, no matter how many days they miss.  This feels weird to even write about, though it should be no surprise as our country slips more and more toward totalitarianism.

Stories such as this have national relevance if for no other reason than they create precedent, a very powerful concept in our judicial system.  Other school districts may be hearing arguments in support of this in the near future, and citing this case down in Texas.  And these stories illustrate that Dr. Paul’s warnings about violations of our privacy and our other rights are very real, and very timely.  Even creepier than the story itself is the defense of it by the local news.

Losses of personal responsibility and individual freedom (no matter at what level) are the very things we are fighting against, and we must continue to spread Dr. Paul’s message of freedom, peace, and prosperity as we try to halt the rising tide of government intervention.  Blatant violations of privacy such as this give us a greater opportunity to spread that message.

And your ridiculous news item of the day…

“Buffett: Recession May Be Worse Than Feared”

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Earlier today, the President said that he isn’t willing to put any kind of title on our current economic situation, but we and plenty of other people know exactly what is going on.  And neither we nor they are hesitant to use the word “recession.”  It’s only by acknowledging what is going on and the underlying causes for it that we will ever start to turn our economy around.

Is it no wonder?

This report from WorldNetDaily says that the Bush administration has signed an agreement to give the United Arab Emirates nuclear fuel and technology?

Such a report almost defies any efforts at commentary. Is it no wonder that Iran is defensive?  “We will give technology to your neighbors, but you are not allowed to pursue your own.”

Madness.  No wonder most of the rest of the world can’t stand us.

Earmark Reform

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

For those of you who may not have read it yet, here is Dr. Paul’s statement on earmark reform from April 10.

I know that he has taken a considerable amount of heat for his stance, but Dr. Paul sincerely believes that it is his job as a representative to pass along the requests of his constituents.

He ultimately votes against final passage on the bills which contain those earmarks, however, and in this statement, he tries to draw the focus of the earmark debate back to where it belongs - on truly restricting spending by returning the federal government to its constitutional limits.
