Question: Does Ron Paul plan to run in the general election?
Answer: No.
Bad answer. This will turn people away.
May 15th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
I am pretty sure that when Dr. Paul was asked if he would be running in the General Election, he took that to mean as a third party candidate, as that is the question he is ALWAYS asked. As far as I can remember, that answer has never changed. He did ask for a little wiggle room once, but normally his answer IS and has been, “no”…..
All in all, I thought that was a very good Q and A session.
May 15th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
If Ron Paul is not on the November ballot, at some point he will endorse some candidate who is on the ballot.
Anyone’s thoughts on who this might be? Bob Barr perhaps?
Hopefully the idea of a write-in campaign will not be endorsed.
Hopefully Ron WILL be on the ballot in Novemeber!
May 15th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
He did say nothing about a 3rd party..He flat out said he would NOT run in the general election. I hated that, and I do not know why he did it before the Convention.
May 15th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
The grace, humility, and good nature with which he answers questions (while still remaining resolute on his principles!) is incredible. Ron Paul would make a great president, but even more importantly: he makes a perfect model for the revolution his followers are creating.
May 15th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
I honestly do not mean to be confrontational, so please don’t take this wrong. Ron Paul is the most honest politician alive. He would not have run for the Republican nomination for President, if he did not intend to seek the Presidency in the General Election. If something happens between now and the convention, say McCain continues to irk the Conservative base and delegates refuse to vote for him, rest assured, Ron Paul WILL accept the nomination and run in the General Election.

OFF TOPIC: Compilation of RP videos, audio and writings
Matt and RP Headquarters,
Are all Ron Paul video and audio recordings collected? Writings, too, from his first to his latest?
This collection could be catelogued, say, as books are catelogued in a library, in that there is at least one place where all recordings and writings can be categorized and retrieved. Would this website be the best place for all RP recordings and writings? If not online, how about at RP’s physical headquarters?
Compiliations of RP’s recordings could be given freely or bought, the manner in which they are dispensed the giver’s discretion. Putting all recordings on one disc would be ideal, but if one disc doesn’t contain enough space, a set of discs could be made to have ALL RP’s video and audio recordings. Sets might be a good idea: A disc contains topical video and/or audio recordings. NOTE: The disc(s) would be copyable but not alterable.
This library of recordings would be a helpful teaching tool to dispense, July 12 a good day, particularly. Thank goodness for YouTube and Google video, but where else can videos be placed and viewed freely? In addition, where can audio be placed and listened to freely, too? Where are ALL RP’s recordings easily accessible from?
OFF TOPIC: RP’s new book
Can “…Manifesto” be purchased at RP’s Texas headquarters? That Ron receive money made from sales of this book or any of his books that go to middlemen such as booksellers and distributers is good. Is buying his book from him possible?
Thank you, Matt.

Sorry guys I don’t mean to be negative but I am a little freaked out at his answer to the general election question. In Rhode Island we cannot write in a candidate, they have to be on the ballot and there is a process to do so even if Dr. Paul is not the Republican nominee. Will Congressman Paul be pursuing being placed on the ballot in the states that have this type of setup? I am literally about to cry I am so upset.
May 15th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
He said on the Houston radio interview the other day that the “party is the vehicle” to create change. Third parties and independents are sadly at too much of a disadvantage in today’s media run Election Idol (CNN actually calls it Ballot Bowl when primaries are covered!). This is why he keeps telling us to work through the GOP. We are having a big effect already, but we are new to this (most of us, anyway). We must identify those in our midst who are willing to run for office - any office - and the rest of us must rally around them. We can be successful, but we cannot lose sight of the goal nor the overall strategy as outlined for us by Dr. Paul.
Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, et al, are getting angrier and angrier at our ’standard bearer’, John McCain. I heard Rush say earlier today that he thinks John McCain is setting out to kick out all conservatives from the Republican Party. How can he complain without offering the obvious alternative?!
May 15th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Congressman Paul, with this election campaign, is continuing something he started with his run in 1988. He is educating us, spreading the message of liberty. He understands the odds are against the chance he will be selected as the GOP nominee, even the chance for him to speak at the convention is a long shot. Yet, he continues. Looking at his record anyone can see that Paul is unique, unfortunately for us. He has been a member of a select few in Congress that went to Washington to uphold the Constitution and, many times, he has been alone in that effort. If you love the message, or Dr. Paul for that matter, then don’t be upset, don’t let your head fall…not now. Don’t be discouraged, never allow yourself to be idle if you are at that point where you are concerned for the future of our great nation, our children and grandchildren. Seek out all of those other Americans who are still sleeping and shake them with knowledge, gently. I feel strongly about the moment in which we now live and truly believe in my heart that we are in the earliest stages of what might very well one day be referred to as the second great American Revolution.
May 15th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
Buy some of Ron Pauls Revolution book, send to your local Radio and TV personalities with a nice note stating. “Many folks are not happy with McCain, Obama or Clinton and looking for an alternate choice. Please read this book by Ron Paul current presidential candidate. Then tell your captive audiances to get in contact with the GOP demanding Ron Paul be nominated for CHANGE this year at the Republicna convention”.
May 15th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Dr. Paul,
You did a superb job today on NPR. It was a convention, wasn’t it? Applause is heard. I’m very happy you got time on a mainstream media outlet, a sturdy amount of time on it and that ill treatment to you, a subtlety, was minimal. (Either the host’s or a caller’s inflection was slightly sharp, overcorrective, when he made a comment he viewed as a correction, to which you replied kindly.) I have a question, however: Will you be in the general election?
Someone asked a question to which you said you weren’t going to be in the general election, the party nomination in September. You did mention, though, that you would have won this phase of the election had voting been conducted online. Way to go! I’m glad you said that! You and thousands, no, millions, of people have at least sensed fraudulent voting has occured. That you said that comment — and on this venue, NPR — is very helpful. Perhaps someday, soon hopefully, online voting will be possible: accuracy — truth. And, perhaps by the next voting procedure, the voter after casting his or her vote may choose to have a receipt for the candidate s/he has voted for, provided corruption isn’t deep enough to use a receipt for evil.
Dr. Paul, I am so proud of you. You make me smile. Keep up the good work, our Good Doctor! You’ve got an ever-growing patient list!

OFF TOPIC! Go RP…YES!!!
Please Matt…we need to include the great
YouTubes with Congressman Ron Paul and President Ronald Reagan.
I have seen about half a dozen of them online in various locations.
All of the YouTubes, videos, speeches, rallies, Straight Talk.
legislation, etc., need to be catalogued for present inspiration
and for our future generations…on one complete set of CDs/DVDs.
They will make exceptional gifts/educational public relations tools.
Please HURRY ASAP!!!
There are some websites and threads on other sites
that have limited compilations…maybe a good way to start.
Most of these will disappear into cyberspace.
Please gather them while they are still available.
Put me on the list to purchase several complete sets.

Go RP,
We’re keeping as much as we can, of course, and there are other efforts also doing that. I don’t know whether there will be any organization selling them in the future or not, but I’m certain that Dr. Paul’s writings and speeches will be well preserved. We don’t directly sell the book, sorry!

Amazon is shipping The Book quicker than their listing claims. I ordered six yesterday. I just got a notice saying they have been shipped and will be here on May 20th.

Andy,
After the Convention, I would expect Ron Paul to endorse the recently announced candidate for the Constitution Party, Chuck Baldwin. I hope Mr Baldwin would consider Judge Napolitano as VP. Dr Paul will have some lunch buddies in DC. and we will have 3 statesman battling for the Constitution.

Matt,
Thank you for your reply. I’m glad to know you or headquarters are working on collecting his video and audio recordings and writings. That’s great. If headquarters sells them dispenses them freely, please inform us. Chances are more than one disc would be asked for.
I thought headquarters is selling his book. A couple months ago I heard HQ would sell it. Oh, well. Nonetheless, Matt, would Dr. Paul sign a book and write a short message in a copy of his book, Revolution? Perhaps include a signed colored or black and white photo? Those two things would be special.
Scott and Great Granny,
Thank you for your replies. I’ll be checking those websites. I’ve checked the one you left, Scott. I was on it briefly. It looks good. The r3VOLution has gained so much valuable experience through the Delegate process that we are well poised to capitalize in the 2012 elections. Electing Ron Paul endorsed candidates to office in 2008 is very important and should be are top priority as the Republican party is going to be significantly out of power after this election. Ron Paul will not be on the ballot in November, and will not tell are “herd of cats” how to vote since there is no corporate approved candidate who will commit to the domestic solutions for America.
McCain has not won the trust of many in the Republican party and has realized he won’t be able to, so know he reaches out to Clinton supporters who will eventually get over it and fall in love with that “dashing urbanite” and his probable V.P. Edwards. His platform is pretty much becoming the worst of Bush’s and Clinton’s put together and it almost looks like he’s trying to loose.
heres my prediction:
Obama-45%
McCain-35%
Barr-10%
Nader-5%
others-5%
In my state of Nevada you have to use a Provincial ballot to wright in a candidate which prohibits you from voting on any thing else, so I will have to choose between Baldwin, Barr or Nader but will get to vote on every ticket. I feel more comfortable with a paper ballot so will request an absentee ballot. Bob Barr most closely represents my political beliefs so I”ll punch the Libertarian ticket this time. If any Republicans want to listen to the wise advice of Dr. Paul I would vote for them too, that is my party after all.

I still might get in, but . . . we’ll see.
The R3volution will be tough. I expect to loose most of the battles, but I am confident that we will win the war. We have principled ideas. The very ideas that freed the Colonies from Britain. Just as they lost most of the battles they still gained their Liberty. Don’t loose hope. As Dr. Paul said, it’s not just about him. It’s about Liberty, Freedom, Justice, the Rule of Law, Prosperity, Peace, the Constitution, the Republic. What will the opposition resort to? Tricks, slander, ridicule. Every time you witness that, every time they resort to dirty tricks, change the rules, or ignore the rules, just smile, like Dr. Paul did on the FOX debate when asked, “Are you electable sir? and know we’re winning, because that is all they can come up with.

I had a chance to witness the Obama rally in Grand Rapids the other day and thousands came to hear him speak, I didnt attend (wouldn’t have for 100 bux), but was on the third story of a building next to the Arena and looked out over the crowd, I was at band practice. It shows me that my city is as in the dark as any other. Ron Paul has the only message worth hearing, with real proposals and ideas. The others speak in a very general context. I couldn’t believe my eyes, and to hear that Ron Paul doesnt plan on being in the general election leaves me somewhat hopeless as far as the Ron Paul revolution is concerned. I do support him, have for a couple years, but America is a country of real idiots and deserve what they/we get. No offense, but we are all being duped, and led down a path that will take many years to correct…if we even try…God save us all…better yet save yourself…Get involved with your local government, state government and make change happen through numbers and rallies. Trust in Government is what led us to this point…Trust in Ron Paul is a trust in yourself if you listen close enough. I live in Michigan and our state gov is the worst in the nation…I cannot wait to vote them suckers OUT!!! Jenny needs to GO! Levin needs to GO, Stabenow…get out. Higher taxes across the board and then talk of stimulus…Crazy, crazy, folks.
I have personally looked past the election and started buying non perishable goods, water, silver/gold and soon a couple guns…Thats what I think we are all going to need.
Good luck my brothers and sisters, we here on this site, RP supporters around the country and world are just the minority that can make change happen.
Love ya Ron!!
BTW, Barr is trying to derail the movement. His voting record speaks for itself, forget that guy, dont even listen. Huckster tried stealing the RP platform and failed for good reason, so will Barr!

Dan:
Here in my state Dr. Paul won the nomination so the G.O.P. insiders ran off the convention floor and shut off the lights before all the votes could be counted. They just canceled the vote.
I fully encourage Ron Paul Delegates and was proud to be one as this experience is invaluable for the future, when we take over the Republican party.
I would have to use a provincial ballot to wright in Ron Paul and wouldn’t get to support a lot of good candidates in local races. I need someone to vote for and McCain’s Empire on borrowed communist money philosophy is not what I’m looking for. Baldwin would be a good choice but the Libertarians are my favorite people on Earth, at least until the Republican party listens to Ron Paul and saves it’s self.
Remember Dr. Paul in the debates when he said that we had to pull out of Iraq, or we’re going to loose in November the way we did in 2006? They chuckled and sneered at him. The Republican party must be cleansed of the greedy bloodthirsty War for profit crowd or it might be replaced by…The Libertarians?

Hey liberty friends,
Ron Paul is to arrive in Louisville, KY tomorrow. The local TV stations WHAS 11, WLKY 32, WAVE 3 and WDRB 41 have not mentioned it at all. They have been promoting Obama, Hillary(despite being mathematically eliminated) and McPain coming this week though. We continue to be censored. I am hoping someone at this site will contact them and complain. I already have. On a better note, I will be attending his book signing and rally tomorrow. I am pumped.

the official ron paul campaign can’t cooridinate their efforts with other organizations (such as the march on july 12th), so it probably won’t be on the event list (due to mccain/feingold campaign finance laws).
Dr. Paul as an individual endorses the event and will be the main speaker. revolutionmarch.com has all the info.

Off topic, sorta. Dan, you said that you were in Michigan. Well, there is impt. news that all who monitor this site will love; the “people” are fighting back. On May 15th there was a Press Release:”Legal Defense Fund Moves to Stop Animal ID Program: Files “Intent to SUE” letter with USDA and Michigan Dept. of Agriculture”. We have been telling yall about this unconstitutional, “corporate written and backed” NAIS (National Animal Identification System), sneaked in on the millions of animal/livestock owners by USDA; “we the people” not involved in its “creation”; had to find out about it in April 05 after it was recorded in the Federal Registry. So, I encourage everyone to look at www.nonais.org today, to read the headlines (todays topic) about the proposed lawsuit. Lawsuits are costly and take time; but a lot of information comes out in their written content. Michigan was one of the chosen states to receive millions from USDA to start this program. Michigan required (mandetory) premise ID; they forcefully went on a persons property; corraled and tagged his cattle; but, this was not a “spineless” individual. So, google: Greg Niewendorp (he knew how to cross every T and dot every I….)Am personally promoting and quoting Dr. Pauls book everywhere….keep the faith. Millions of Americans do not even have a clue about all these issues: the NAU, TTC, Nafta superhwy, Real ID, Nais, the Federal Reserve; real reason for the war in Iraq….their losing of their rights (habeus Corpus); all this spying and surveillance…etc. So, keep on getting all this info out to people; then, maybe they will begin to ask these questions of the 3 (McCain,Obama,Clinton)AND, they will look at their voting records!

I’m sure that you have all seen or read about the Republican’s scrambling to “save our party” over the past couple of days. I am providing a link to a story on it, for those who haven’t seen it. (I tried to comment on the story, but it’s been 12 hours and my comment hasn’t shown up yet.) Touting the “new plan” as “The Change You Deserve”, you’ll notice the establishments intent to bring the party MORE in line with the Democrats instead of further from it. We need to exploit this at the conventions and in our personal dealings with undecided or unhappy voters. This “dumbing down” of the party platform will not work. On a positive note, the party is starting to recognize they are on their way out. This recognition should benefit us, as it provides the confirmation that the party has lost it’s way, and they need Ron Paul’s ideas to find their way back.

REVOLUTION MARCH July 12th 2008 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I’m so darned smart, got it all figured out. Since there are so many 3rd parties, the Libertarian Party, the Independent Party, the Socialist Party, the Green Party, the Constitutional Party, etc… why don’t the NeoCon’s start their own party? The NeoConservative Republican Party? The NCR… Then the Republican Party gets their party back, the NeoCons have their own space, the Democrats have theirs. Every one is happy, there is no confusion. There, genius, good, I will sleep better now knowing that we’ve got this all straightened out.
May 16th, 2008 at 8:21 am
Off Topic - in response to question about the march
Trudy, et al - Dr. Paul is confirmed as the keynote speaker for the July 12th event in DC. As Eli pointed out, this is not an official campaign event, but there are several speakers lined up (some are members of Congress) as well as entertainment, etc. About a week ago, the home page of this site (the official campaign site) had the July 12th speaking engagement listed, then it disappeared. I think there can only be a certain number of events listed there, so as new ones are added to the calendar, anything further out date-wise gets pushed off the page. I have requested that it be put back, but to no avail. I’ve also requested (along with several others) that Dr. Paul release a new video message to supporters encouraging everyone to attend the July 12th march in DC. Last time we heard from him, he mentioned that June 21st would be a good date, but the organizers at www.revolutionmarch.com could not get the necessary permits for that day.
As Dr. Paul stated in the first announcement about this march, it will only work if our numbers are truly remarkable. If we look like a few ants down on the mall, it could not only be ignored, but it could actually kill this movement. Anyone who is serious about taking this country back needs to make every effort to be there. Please sign up for email updates at www.revolutionmarch.com, find out what their volunteer needs are and sign up for those, too. They have done alot of work on this & it’s turning into something much larger than a single event. Throughout the days prior to July 12th, they are having training on how to lobby and will put the training into action on Friday, 7/11! This is really HUGE! I cannot stress enough the importance of making whatever sacrifices necessary (financial, time, etc.) and BE THERE! (Besides, I really can’t wait to meet ya’ll!)

To Robert Gavula in NJ : Thanks Robert I will check out the regs again. I probably read them wrong the other day. I am really not an overly emotional person but I am so afraid for this country that another 8 months the same old same old is disturbing and to think four more years on top of that really sets my teeth on edge.

Off Subject, but the next string has several posts about the money counter. Personally, I feel sure Dr. Paul has reasons to take it down. There is still a “contribute” button to the right of the home page. I made a small contribution again yesterday. We shouldn’t stop contributing when we can, even if it’s just a little, because look at all the money the other candidates keep getting, having fund raisers, etc.(and probably from other groups too). Dr. Paul is traveling by commercial airline now, and isn’t taking his family, and cutting back everywhere he can. And if, by the miracle we are expecting, he wins the nomination in Sept., he is going to need our contributions. We don’t have to have the counter to contribute. I agree that it causes incentive, but we still can contribute. Just my opinion.

Off Topic - Attn Texans attending the march: (Matt - perhaps it’s time for another miscellaneous post?)
On Thursday, July 10th at 9:30am, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison will host a coffee for constituents in Room 283 of the Russell Senate Office Building. She does this every Thursday morning when she is in DC. I plan to arrive in DC on Wednesday evening (the 9th) so that I can take advantage of this opportunity to go meet her and perhaps take her a copy of The Revolution. Any Texan can go, but we need to call her office to RSVP. BTW, Sen. Cornyn’s coffee is on Mondays (or Tuesdays, I can’t remember), but that doesn’t work for my travel plans. Just FYI in case it works with yours.
Feed back / thoughts welcome from anyone: What should our strategy be here? Should we call in individual RSVP’s or should we work to get a headcount & call in with one big number? Should we sport our RP-wear or dress more business-like?
Those from other states, check your Senators’ and Representatives’ websites - most host similar functions weekly for their constituents, too!

The AOL STRAWPOLL is dropping. Dr. Paul is not at 33%. It starts over each Monday afternoon. If you haven’t voted this week, please do so. It does encourage people. Do Google, type in aol strawpoll, then clicl on Polititcal Machine - if you don’t have their website. When I post it here, my whole post goes into the ozone somewhere.

Fox finally posted a long list of comments on that story I linked to in my last post. (It only took them 13 hours….) Of all the posters, only a couple plan to vote for McCain. Every other post depicts anger and disillusion with the GOP.

Marilyn (and others):
If you get to this domain by going through www.ronpaulforpresident2008.com , then you will see the donation counter. It is currently just shy of $6.2 M for this quarter . If you don’t see it, click on the “Donate” tab in the middle column, and it will display.
To get here, click on “RonPaul2008″ in the left column.

Did you all hear on TV yesterday that O’B. called a female reporter “Sweetie” ? Funny, I thought.

Marilyn,
I think that the amount on that site has been the same total for a long time. But we can donate here, of course, by clicking the “donate” buttom at the top of the home page. I feel like Dr. Paul has his reasons for taking the counter down, but we still can contribute. And we need to, I think. I made a small donation yesterday. If our miracle happens, and he wins in Sept. he will need more money. I head that he is now traveling commercial airlines, not taking his family, and being strategic about where he goes and what he does. I don’t think our donations should stop. (I like your name, by the way!)

Neville, I didn’t notice that my post should have gone to you. Oh well.

I hope Dr. Paul will elaborate a little when he says he won’t be running in the general election.
Say it ain’t so, Ron.
Anyway, he has my 100% support either way.

Daneille K,
I just a few minutes ago signed up under the website you gave, because I want to go to the July 12 Freedom Rally. I had signed my months ago as a precinct leader, but I guess that’s different. Anyway, when I went to your site, I filled out the forms. They told me what meetup I’ll be in and sent an email saying I will be contacted. If my money needs to be paid today, I hope someone contacts me right away. i included my phone number and email address. Do you think I’ve waited too late, as far as getting on a bus to go to the rally. I don’t want to drive my car. I’m waiting for someone to contact me, money in hand!

Thanks to R F I have downloaded my first RP YouTube Video to CD. I was surprised how small these files are. Ron Paul A New Hope is only 20.1 MB. That means that a typical CD which holds 700 MB will hold many of these videos.

Does Dr. Paul host luncheon, coffees, or any type of meetings in his office in Washington that may be attended by constituents?

OFF TOPIC:
C-Span2 “Book TV” Ron Paul on “The Revolution: A Manifesto”
That was BY FAR the BEST Ron Paul speaking event I’ve seen yet aired on mainstream television! It re-airs again May 26 (check homepage for time). He was able to speak without ridicule and was asked intelligent questions. If there was one I’d say watch, this was the one! Thank you C-Span for allowing it to be aired completely.
