Nebraska and West Virginia
MSNBC.com is reporting that Dr. Paul received just under 6,000 votes and 5% in West Virginia, and ABC News is reporting that Dr. Paul received over 17,000 votes and 13% of the vote in Nebraska.
The 5% does look discouraging at first, but that’s almost 6,000 more people who have officially registered their support for Dr. Paul, and it’s a great starting point to build on in West Va. And although we wish it was higher, of course, the 13% in Nebraska is very encouraging.

If the MSM has taught me anything, it is how to spin. I am very encouraged by the fact that Ron Paul got 18% of the vote yesterday.:) Way to go NE & WV!

Matt,
Is there any response by the campaign to address the ‘vote loss’ as reported in the other blog regarding west virginia?
Thanks!
May 14th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
Well, I really wish this represented 18% of the vote!
Fact is, using the numbers above, if 5% represents 6000 votes in WV and 13% represents 17000 votes in NE then the total voting population is around 250,000 (120K + 130K). 23,000 votes represents roughly 9% of the total vote yesterday.
This is still a very positive affirmation that support continues to be stable, if not rising, for Dr Paul!

I’ll take a look at it, Eli. Haven’t seen that yet. Thanks!

It seems that if Ron Paul would actively campaign or hold rallies in the state, gets interviews with the local media, he seems do well like Pennsylvania. I think he would be getting more votes and more people will be waking up from their sheepish sleepwalk. I am hoping that Kentucky will show better result since he is scheduled to be there.
Great job West Virginia and Nebraska.

Math Check,
You are not by any chance a Math teacher?
I was only supplying a little humor to the statistics. I am blonde, so I guess it was blonde humor–but I did teach HS Physics for 10 years. I appreciate your real calculations and I am still pleased with the results although I would love to see higher numbers! Oh-by-the way, the former teacher in me wants to know if you showed all your work with correct units?:) Thanks again for legitimizing the numbers. 9% is still very good and I think Ron Paul’s message is gaining momentum (a good physics term).

Matt Hawes,
Dan posted this at 9:10am today, and it has 2 pictures of the counted votes, 45 minutes apart, showing Dr. Paul lost over 800 votes in that area of WV. They should be held accountable.

Matt Hawes: Dan posted the lost vote info under “Today’s Primaries”.
Voter fraud in West Virginia can be reported at http://www.wvvotes2.com/fraud/index.php
It might also be a good idea to send an email with the screen shots to Hoppy Kercheval, the host of the West Virginia state-wide talk radio show - his email address is Talkline@WVMetronews.com (the flagship radio station is WAJR-1440 AM in Morgantown, WV - their web page is www.wajr.com

West Virginia is a neat case because we had both a state GOP convention to select national delegates, and a statewide primary. I was a delegate (for Ron, of course) at the convention, where Ron received 10% of the vote and managed to secure 3 national delegates through savvy horse-trading.
But Ron only received 5% in the primary-what gives? Before we go shouting vote fraud, we should step back and realize two things:
1. 5% of WV registered Republicans voting for a non-interventionist libertarian is pretty remarkable. I would argue that WV has a natural constituency that is less amenable to Ron’s ideas and platform than any other state. I won’t go into specifics here; suffice to say that libertarian ideas are quite alien here.
2. We were able to seriously leverage Ron’s hardcore support by working within the GOP establishment. Also, I personally witnessed Ron make a very good impression on many of the state GOP delegates who did not wind up voting for him. As usual, his campaign here made big, unmeasurable strides in educating people.
So, WV should give us optimism about working within the GOP. I don’t expect the Paulistas will ever be able to really “take over” the party, but a small hardcore of r3volutionaries can effectively stifle it, perhaps leading the way to a Whig-like implosion or a viable 3 or 4 party system.
Finally, a friendly plea to my fellow Paulistas out there: don’t be discouraged, please try to be optimistic and look at the bright side! Try not to get mad and throw fits. I know we face a lot of adversity, but let’s overcome it by being calm, gentle, patient, and happy.
It may be hard to see, but Ron’s campaign has been a huge success: the young generation is being exposed to the ideas of liberty; this is only the beginning. Many people have said things to the effect, “we’re all screwed if Ron doesn’t win-he’s our last hope.” No, no, no. Ron is a forward thinking leader who is spreading the message to future generations who will advance the cause.
I’m a 27 year-old PhD student. I’ll be teaching my first college-level class in Economics this summer, at the most free-market, libertarian-oriented University in the world (at least when it comes to economics). Rest assured that my students will hear all sides about the Federal Reserve, inflation, the gold standard, etc. The future is ours, let’s have the optimism and hope to take it!
Cheers,
Tyler

Let’s not forget that WV had seven candidates on the Republican Primary ticket and Ron Paul came in third, ahead of Romney who had only 4%. Ron just had to share the anti-McCain vote is all.
http://www.boston.com/news/politics/
McCain , John 89,782 76%
Huckabee , Mike 12,187 10%
Paul , Ron 5,918 5%
Romney , Mitt 5,199 4%
Giuliani , Rudy 2,839 2%
Keyes , Alan 1,430 1%
Curry , Jerry 7 28 1%
Tyler, that is awesome news. I didn’t know that WV had their convention on the same day.
May 14th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
HunterM:
The convention was on Super Tuesday (February 5)
May 14th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
That’s interesting, I didn’t realize that some states had their conventions before their primaries. In Missouri we had our primary on Super Tuesday and we will have our state convention at the end of May.

On the topic of the 867 lost votes…
There is no way to lose votes. It should either stay the same or go up. EVERYONE should be asking questions. Not just RP supporters. If it happens to our candidate, whose candidate is next??? Even those who don’t like RP for president should be holding the election officials accountable to these lost votes. I wish people would hurry up and wake up. Any injustice for one is an injustice for all. That is what RP has been saying all along. We are loosing our liberties before our very eyes. People wonder why some of us are skeptical about the election results. Here is a good reason. What is that quote again? It doesn’t matter who votes, but who counts the votes. Something like that.
May 14th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
Nancy, that’s right. There are 2 pictures, for Heaven’s sake, 45 minutes apart. 867 votes dropped from Dr. Paul.
May 14th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
regarding the nebraska primary yesterday. voter turn out was 23% statewide that’s not good for mcsame beause this is one of the largest red states in the country. when you break it down even further Ron Paul did awesome in some smaller counties 40 to 50% of the vote with no meetups ,advertsing, nothing. the gop didn’t turn out to support mcsame. Also noted that since Ron Paul was the only other candidate running against mcsame the people that voted for Ron Paul support Ron Paul it’s not an anti Mcsame vote. One more thing to mention the the democrats had a primary also same turn out about 23% this is a repubican state,Obama won 48% to 46%. The gop is realizing there in trouble after losing their third run off election in mississippi yesterday. I plan on mentioning that at the convention. I predict shock an awe for the republicans in november if they don’t start listening to Dr. Paul.

I just downloaded and completed the Election Complaint Form for the West Virginia Secretary of State. I’ll have it notarized tomorrow and will mail it to Betty Ireland (Secretary of State), along with the screen snapshot of the vote discrepancy. I’ve asked her to investigate the situation and report to me the correct totals for Dr. Paul’s votes.

Just think what might happen if we all sent this request to her office?
Peace, Prosperity and Paul in 2008!

m gunderson,
What’s your source on Paul getting 40-50% in some Nebraska counties? I just checked CBS news, and the highest county for Ron Paul was 21%

Liberty Gal:
I saw your response to my comment on the other thread (”Today’s Primaries”) - hopefully many will send in a complaint form to the West Virginia Secretary of State.
May 14th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
well the nice thing is that Paul has gotten 1,030,240 votes total now according to CNN.
That’s a great base to start from next time on both support and contributions. That’s one large grassroots community, and thats a lot of election fraud to have been committed by one spammer!
Paul won’t have any weight? 1 million votes is could easily be twice the margin of victory this year as it was in 2000.

Want to know what anyone thinks of this reply from my Tennessee state senator, Bob Corker. I heard the Global Poverty Act had passed committee and will be in the Senate for a vote soon so I wrote Sen. Corker to voice my concerns. I keep hearing about a site about “voting them all out”. I think that may be a good idea.
————–
Thank you for contacting my office to share your concerns regarding S.2433, the Global Poverty Act of 2007. Your input is important to me, and I appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts.
As you may know, the Global Poverty Act of 2007 directs the President, through the Secretary of State, to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to further the Millennium Development goal and U.S. foreign policy objective of promoting the reduction of global poverty and reducing by one-half the proportion of people, between 1990 and 2015, who live on less than $1 per day. The Secretary of State would also designate a coordinator who would oversee and draft progress reports on behalf of the President concerning the implementation of this strategy.
Like you, I agree that it is important to protect the sovereignty of our country. We as Americans have been blessed with so many freedoms and opportunities, and I can assure you that I will never vote for a measure that would jeopardize our autonomy. That said, I believe that our security is directly related to the economic security of countries around the world. If people have access to medical care, food, and jobs they will be less likely to turn to terrorism and other destructive habits. As I continue to serve in the United States Senate, I will work to see that we are properly supporting those who are less fortunate, but that we are also preserving the rights of the U.S. in our decision making. Should S.2433 be brought before the full Senate for a vote, I will certainly take into consideration your concerns.
Thank you again for your letter. I hope you will continue to share your thoughts with me over the course of my term.
Sincerely,
Bob Corker
United States Senator

Off topic: Connie, I got the same email from Kay Bailey Hutchinson’s office with the exact wording in Corker’s response.
Frankly, I am sick of taking care of the world & not our own citizens. I became anti-war when I learned that our soldiers were being forced to pay back sign-on bonuses once they were disabled in combat. Disgusting treatment of those who have sacrificed so much!

we should take care of our own first (note KimSATX and our soldiers). the senators “belief” in our security being related to other countries economic security is wrong on so many levels (why aren’t the poor africans taking over planes and flying them into our buildings?). our continued charity and interventionism is always justified as a “National security interest”; i’m sick of it

In a way, I’m kind of glad some of them respond as they do because it lets “We the People” know whether they are representing our interests or not. Although Sen. Corker is always polite, I don’t feel he quite understands what is best for America.

Off topic: To Connie. The key word in KimSATX’s comment is Office as in Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison’s Office. When I first got a letter in response from “her” I was impressed. The second and third time, I wised up. The same with our new congressman Nick Lampon (not sure of exact spelling of his last name) after getting three with the exact wording.

I’ve written Sen. Corker a few times (maybe 3 or 4) and I remember one of the replies was similar to this last one…….not the content but the sense that he is going to vote on what he feels is appropriate; not what we want. It might’ve been an automatic response now that I see what you guys are saying……or at least workings from a “starter” letter. Did that make sense? Anyway, I’m simply flabbergasted at the legislations going to a final vote that are blatantly unconstitutional. And our leaders are dictating to us how these bills will be good for this country when they are way off. It just seems like “common sense” to take care of one’s own family and house before taking care of someone else’s. And I simply don’t want our federal government to choose where to send my money for charity. That is a freedom I’d rather decide on myself.

the AOL STRAWPOLL is slipping today for Dr. Paul - 37%. Yesterday, we were up to 47%. If you haven’t voted this week, please do it. It starts over each Monday afternoon. Surely we haven’t run out of people who are willing to vote. Since McC– people are still voting, we should be too. It’s a good indicator. Thanks.

Why were my two posts regarding the Nebraska Primary deleted from this blog? There was nothing controverial or profane about them?
May 15th, 2008 at 11:34 am
The problem here is not JUST Dr. Paul’s losing 867 votes during the counting of the last 21% of the precints. There is also a loss of 175 votes in the total shown for all 3 candidates. Now, how do you go about losing 175 votes?
I would even be suspicious of that final number for Huckabee. The percentages do vary during the vote tallying, but to drop from 19% to 13% due to the last fifth of the precincts is not something you normally see in election results.
I can see a miscount that gets corrected during the final tallying up quality assurance pass, but the lost votes for Dr. Paul represent over 25% of the total votes cast in Raliegh County. So, they miscounted over 1/4 of all the votes in that county, and double-counted some in the process? That, I can’t see.
I will be sending in a complaint form, too. Actually, I’ll send in one about the Paul votes, and my wife will send in one about the overall votes.
