Nebraska and West Virginia primaries tomorrow
If you live in Nebraska or West Virginia, make sure to vote for Dr. Paul in your primary tomorrow, and to get as many people as possible out to the polls as well.
Those in Nebraska who need information such as where their polling place is can visit the Nebraska Secretary of State’s Voter Information Center here. And those in West Virginia can check out WV Votes. Both are closed primaries, although independents can vote on the Republican ballot in West Va.
Dr. Paul’s numbers in recent primaries have been attracting attention, and we have a great chance to build on our 1,000,000 + total. We’ll add a thread tomorrow so you can share your Primary Day stories.
Update - Thanks to Scott for the reminder. If you’re an independent in West Va., make sure you ask for the Republican ballot.

Nebrasca and West Virginia, good luck to you tomorrow!

Barr Has Been Spending Freely
Former GOP Rep. Bob Barr (Ga.) announced his candidacy for the Libertarian Party’s presidential nomination today, saying that Americans deserved a choice beyond what the Democratic and Republican candidates can offer.
But if Barr really is disillusioned with the two major parties, he hasn’t shown it with his wallet.
Barr, who helped manage President Clinton’s impeachment in 1998 and then lost his House seat following redistricting in 2002, nominally quit the Republican party in December 2006. Barr said at the time that the direction of the GOP had been “bothering me for quite some time” and called himself a “proud, card-carrying Libertarian.”
Since then, Barr has continued to exercise his inherent right to dole out campaign cash, and his political action committee — now known as the Bob Barr Leadership Fund — has contributed money to roughly two-dozen Republican members of Congress, according to Federal Election Commission records. Recipients of Barr’s largess have included some decidedly moderate, non-Libertarian types like GOP Reps. Christopher Shays (Conn.) and Deborah Pryce (Ohio) and Sen. Norm Coleman (Minn.).
Barr also gave $1,000 last year to the presidential effort of a former Libertarian nominee, Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), just a few weeks after he gave money to another White House campaign — that of former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore, who is now running for Senate. Further complicating Barr’s post-partisan (or bipartisan? tripartisan?) stance, his last recorded PAC contribution, made in February, went to … a Democrat: Rep. Tom Allen, a candidate for Senate in Maine.
Of course, Barr’s PAC has also given at least $8,500 to the Libertarian National Committee. So he’s got almost all of his bases covered. As of March 31, his committee still had $166,000 on hand. Maybe he’ll throw some cash the Green Party’s way, just to be fair.

I also heard Rush Limbaugh talk about Ron Paul and the LA Times article today on his show while I was driving to Minnesota.
Also, don’t forget to vote in the AOL Poll:

Perhaps the most interesting thing–in Nebraska, ONLY Ron Paul and John McCain will be on the Republican ballot. Hopefully Dr. Paul’s numbers will be significant in one of the reddest of red states–THAT would be a wake up call signifying discontent of “real” Republicans with the “presumptive nominee”.

In West Virginia, independents can vote in either the Republican or Democrat primary - but you need to ask for the Republican or Democrat primary ballot or you will be given an independent ballot and won’t be able to cast - see this link http://www.wvmetronews.com/index.cfm?func=displayfullstory&storyid=24728.

Should’ve read : “won’t be able to cast a vote for a presidential candidate”

Off topic: Why do we keep reading that McC— does not have the 1191 bound delegates, then we hear that he does. I would like to know just how many he does have.

To the revolutionaries in Nebraska and West Virginia, your time has come!
You have a major role to play tomorrow, but you need to do more than just vote. Spend as much of the day as you can at your polling place. Stand as close as you are allowed, smile and greet voters, tell them you voted for Ron Paul and ask them to do the same.
In West Virginia, it looks like your RP delegate slate is ready to go in all of the districts & that you vote for the slate when you vote for the candidate. The only way to win these delegates is to win the votes! The West Virginia GOP website has already declared McCain the winner of your state. Without warm bodies at the polls supporting Ron Paul, most voters will believe he has dropped out of the race or that McCain has already won. There are many Republicans who will want to vote for anyone but McCain. Unfortunately, Ron Paul is not their only choice. There are at least 6 alternatives. If a live person asks them to vote for Ron Paul, we’ll be able to pick up the majority of the anti-McCain votes plus all the true Ron Paul supporters. We need this extra push, so please take the day off and campaign for freedom!
Nebraska, you’ve got a little easier job, but please don’t let off the slack just yet. With Ron Paul as the only other option on your ballot, we stand a chance of doing very well! This could be a real shot at winning a majority if you guys work the polling places! This is one Longhorn that’s pulling for the Huskers tomorrow!

off topic,
Ron had his best AOL straw poll results last week at 24%. Currently Ron trails 46% to 54% and leading in 30 states, his best ever showing on the straw poll. Way to go Ron Paul supporters.

Vote your conscious Nebraska and West Virginia!
Being on the “winning ‘presumptive nominee’ team” doesn’t mean anything if you win for something against your principles.
Peace. Prosperity. Freedom.
Go Ron Paul!

off topic,
explained prior to you and others that caucus states take months do select national delegates. The MSM incorrectly gave all national caucus delegates to the straw poll winner in the states on voting nights. Then over the following months up to and including today have not adjusted the MSM political web site listings. Then every other media outlet copies the MSM delegate list, thus the distortion. I do believe the National GOP convention may produce a surprise nominee named Ron Paul. MSM gave all Minnesota national delegates to Romney back in March, yet we are still working on convention processes to elect all the national delegates. So far, Ron Paul has 14 national delegates that the MSM lists as Romney.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
actually Huckabee won the convention….now he has to decide whether or not to unbind the delegates or give them to McCain…I believe that is how it works. But either way, mccain doesn’t have wv… yet…
May 12th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Gin in WV:
Mike Huckabee won the West Virginia convention but made a deal to get Ron Paul delegates to support him on the second round of voting in exchange for Ron Paul getting 3 of the delegates to the national convention
May 12th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Scott: Thanks for that reminder - I thought I remembered already having a vote of some sort in WVa a long time ago. So, are the 3 Ron Paul delegates he has there part of the at-large delegates (I think there’s 18)? And then there are 9 more elected tomorrow with 3 from each of the 3 congressional districts?
May 12th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
I’m a ron paul supporter voting tomorrow in the nebraska primary. Dr. paul has strong support here, this is one of the biggest republican districts in the country. I travel for my job and have been handing out slim jims in every town i go to. Ron paul has signs up in the middle of no where along highways. Expect a good showing. County conventions have large numbers of Ron paul supporters signed up ,they are the first week of June and the State Convention is July 12th the same day as the freedom march,so I need you guys to m arch for me has I’ll be trying to go to ST Paul. Also have a article in the paper tomorrow quoting Ron Paul. Just to remind people to vote for the real republican.

Danielle K:
West Virginia will be sending 30 state delegates to the national convention. Of those, 9 will be elected in the May 13th primary: three per district, with each district’s winner named separately.
18 state delegates were elected in a winner-take-all state convention held on February 5th. Ron Paul had the least amount of votes in the first round of voting at the WV state convention and was eliminated from the next round, but will get 3 of these delegates per the deal between Ron Paul delegates to support Mike Huckabee in the second round of voting. Mike Huckabee won on the second round vote.
The last three delegate slots are reserved for the state GOP leadership.

When I go to the aol strawpoll, Dr. Paul’s percentage and all his states are black! Is anyone else having that problem?

Off Subject:
Yes, I was just there and saw the same thing. Ron Paul’s photo didn’t come up either.
May 13th, 2008 at 7:20 am
Yes Marilyn, I too noticed that. Wonder what gives? Can’t read the percentage he’s at!

Marilyn in LJ:
I’m having the same problem - but did you notice that John McCain only has 54% of the votes nationally and is leading in onlt 21 states (that puts Ron Paul at 46% and leading in 29 states!)

This morning I very proudly cast my vote for Dr. Ron Paul in the West Virginia primary.
It has been a long wait and I am so pleased to have finally gotten to vote.
On the negative side, having moved back here just four years ago, this is my first opportunity to vote here in Huntington. The polling place is well hidden, though very near my home. I almost missed finding it.
If anyone is interested google Radio Museum on google earth and you will see how well it is hidden in our hills. It used to be a school, but no longer. I finally saw the last four letters of the museum on a building sign and a tiny little 8 x 11 piece of white paper on a chain link fence that warned against electioneering at polling site, so I knew I was in the right place.
May 13th, 2008 at 8:19 am
Scott, pretty good indication, huh?
May 13th, 2008 at 8:21 am
tim, thank you (again) for getting me straight!

Off subject- aol poll
There was no photo, so unless you were careful, McCain would be your only choice.
The next page comes in with a black bar for Paul but it’s almost the size of McCains!
May 13th, 2008 at 9:09 am
What kind of voting mechanism in your states?
Will you have sample areas for recounts?
Has anyone done a study on Ron Paul % in paper and paperless states?

Off Topic - Aol Straw Poll
Well, that is interesting. Paul’s picture doesn’t come up and after voting, it gives me no totals. Hasn’t this site been working just fine all these months? And yeah, it’s suspicious that everything on the site seems to be working fine except the straw poll. We just can’t help being suspicious of the media anytime something like this happens. We’ve seen way too much already.
May 13th, 2008 at 9:55 am
Thanks, Scott!
May 13th, 2008 at 10:04 am
Connie, it’s the same with all of us on aol - talk about a black-out! But we can still tell what percentage we have.
