INSIST ON A PROVISIONAL BALLOT!!
Went to vote this morning (in Indiana) and asked for a paper ballot that would not be counted by the machine.
They went nuts.
Two or three poll workers told me that I had to vote on the machines.
When I explained that the machines could be “hacked”, one poll worker with some authority said: “I’ve never heard of that.”
One poll worker then called someone downtown, who repeated that I had to vote on the machines, despite my insistence that I have a constitutional right to a paper ballot.
I got on the phone and repeated that I have a right to a paper ballot, and was refused once
again–being told that I had to vote on the machines.
I again stated that I have a legal right to a vote not counted by a machine…
This time much more slowly not loudly…
And was told to “check my ‘attitude’”.
(The ‘clincher’ was probably when I told them to QUOTE to me, chapter and verse, from the election law, which stated that I am REQUIRED to have my vote counted by a machine.)
I was finally told that I could ask for a provisional ballot.
(Thank you.)
Place an x or checkmark next to the candidate’s name.
Be sure that it has the initials of a Republican and Democrat poll worker.
A “provisional” ballot sticker is then placed on the ballot; fold the ballot;
it is inserted into an envelope; the envelope is sealed and you write
your name address, precinct number and date; sign the envelope, which
is then given to the person in charge.
You are also given a paper explaining your rights as a voter…
Including the right to know whether your provisional ballot was
even counted…”and, if not, why not”.
This is the crux of the issue and the only way of establishing the
credibility of the election process.
Of course, I suspect that my name will be sent to the Department of
Homeland Security as a potential “terrorist” or “enemy combatant”, and
that I will also be placed on the “no fly” list.
But at least I know that I voted for Ron Paul.

Hi, I voted for Ron Paul today in North Carolina. Unfortunately I voted on the machine. I know. I know. I hope I did everything correct. I went to the line according to my last name. I told her my name. She asked my party affiliation. I walked up to the machine and voted.
May 6th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
Why wouldn’t everyone want to be sure all votes were counted???
Unless….
Why would the government forbid labeling of genetically modified ingredients????
Why don’t I have a right to know more than sodium content?
Why would Bush stop the Governors from halting predatory lending?????
Why Santy Claus, Why?
May 6th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
I did the same thing in Texas, although there was no argument about it. I said I wanted a paper ballot, and the lady said that would be a provisional ballot. Several weeks later I got confirmation in the mail that my vote had been counted. INSIST on a provisional ballot from now on. Unlike federal reserve notes, this is when paper is worth its weight in gold.
May 6th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
How about performing a paper ballot vote outside the voting centre as well. No law against that. Results might be interesting.
Voting is the most important act in democracy. It should ALWAYS have a paper trail.
May 6th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
Everyone call your state elections committee and be sure that they do random hand counts.
Areas choosen AFTER the election with witnessness. Couple small towns, couple city wards.
That would make me feel better.
Of course they have to use something that can be counted.
May 6th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
By the way, share the hacking democracy videos and links with everyone you know.
May 6th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
I did the intelligent action this morning..a vote for Ron Paul !!!!!!!!
May 6th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
Placed a sign last night at my polling station and voted in northern Indiana today. Relatively smooth, other than the rude poll worker. I did hear of problems this morning in two polling locations in St. Joe county, Indiana. The oversight people didn’t show up which caused the polls to open an hour late. Also there was a problem with some electronic voting machines (imagine that) but they said all are running now.
The turnout isn’t as high as I expected. Local elections last year turned out nearly 100% attendance at my location. This time the tally was only 223 when I voted. I guess this could be viewed as a pro or con. Hopefully a pro on our side. I did notice that the lady handing ballots to the voters had the democrat stack easily available where as the republican stack was under a heap of binders and paperwork. This led me to believe the republicans are not turning out as most candidates on the republic ballot had not challenger.
Anyway, good luck at the polls to all!

My wife and I voted today in the NC primary in Asheville. We were given paper ballots, and didn’t see any sort of problems occur. To the contrary, the “help desk” appeared to be actually administering help, to what seemed to be the ill prepared.
BTW: More Ron Paul signs than Clinton, Obama, and McCain combined.
May 6th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
I voted in Howard County today, and although I was registered to vote at that location and the IN website sent me to that location, they claimed I had crossed some line and my vote would not be counted/I could not even file. I hung up on the registration person I was talking to as they kept telling me I would not be counted. The head of the Poll workers said that was not the case and had me file a provisional ballot, and confirmed I was in the correct location etc, and that my vote would be counted. So I have done my best, Good Luck Ron!
May 6th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Voted about a week ago. Early voting. Used the computer counter thing… never heard of the provisional ballot thing. Oh well, maybe next time!
May 6th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
was anyone else scared by mccains speech today about the judges and the judicial system?
May 6th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
My friend had to call me to look up her polling place because they told her she wasn’t registered. She was at the right place. They called the county clerk and they cleared things up.
However…
When she signed in the lady asked her republican or democrat. My friend said she was registered as a democrat but wished to change parties. (she didn’t know you can vote across lines as you please) The lady replied, If you are voting for John McCain you need a republican ballot. Appalled my friend replied, I’m not voting for McCain. The lady said, oh then you need a democratic ballot. My friend said, No, I am voting Republican. This continued a couple times until my friend said, look just because I am voting republican does not mean I am voting McCain, can I have a Republican ballot. She then got one.
When she fed it through the optical scanner there was a person standing on each side of it watching her, clearly seeing who she voted for.
Although everything worked out in the end, this all seemed weird to me.
1. Your vote is presumed to be anonymous, her privacy was blown to bits.
2. It very much seemed as though the poll worker was steering her in a direction. It’s bad enough to have to tell them your affiliation.
But to be fair, a bunch of old ladies run our polling places. Maybe her hearing aid needed to be turned up.
I converted almost every friend/ family member. Look for northern Indiana to have a good turn out for Dr. Paul.
May 6th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
Why is Huckabee still on the ballot? If they are all electronic, it seems they should be able to update it. I’m sure a number of people saw Huckabee and Paul and assumed they were both out of the race.
May 6th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
My Dad and Brother voted Paul too! (INDIANA)
May 6th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
@ Adam
Huckabee is on the ballet because he submitted the documents to be on there before he “dropped out”. Also, he did like Romney, suspended his campaign. That way he keeps his delegates which would make him the nominee if something happens to McSame
May 6th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
Not only Huckabee but even ALAN KEYES is on the NC ballot. Also “No Preference” - but somehow I don’t think an NP win would mean no Repub on then November NC ballot. I always vote by AT-HOME ABSENTEE, until the day paperless voting machines are abolished in NC. My county doesn’t have those machines yet but they are part of a rising tide of election-rigging. Ron4Prez and BJLawson4Congress whom Ron endorsed, got my vote. I’ve had my eye on you ever since you said Legalize Freedom on the Mort Downey show in 1988, Ron!
May 6th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Problem with paper and provisional ballots:
Your votes may not be counted until later. They’ll report the instant machine results to the press, and the provisional ballots won’t be counted (because they take longer) until later, if at all. If there are 1,000 votes for one candidate, and 500 votes for the other, and 100 provisional ballots, why bother to find out who they’re for, since they won’t change the outcome? Certainly, the press won’t care.
If you are concerned about an honest count, the best you can do is observe your polling place’s count at the end of the day. In almost all cases, the poll-workers are civic-minded voluneers from the neighborhood, but it doesn’t hurt to get the count from them, and make sure it matches what the Secretary of State reports later.
Names appear on the ballot by statute, and are not removed after a certain date, even if the candidate drops out. That’s why I recommend putting up signs saying “Huckabee dropped out” next to the Ron Paul signs.
May 6th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
Can someone please help me?
I know that there are two primaries today. NC, and Indiana. Why can’t I find any results of the Republican races. Every news channel on the tube or the internet has nothing but Democrat talking heads or results.
Did I miss something again?
There are also Republican primaries today, right?

That’s for Indiana…….click on states later & choose NC to see theirs.
MSM is not covering the GOP primary because it’s ‘already won’.

There was a bit of a ruckus at the lasalle high school polling station in south bend, in. They opened late and closed early. This area has a heavy black population. surprise surprise, thats not helping Clin*** is it?? A friend of mine was not able to vote for Ron Paul.
May 6th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
As I was driving around Chapel Hill NC today ,I noticed a very conspicuios lack of Ron Paul Signs that I knew I had seen everywhere last week here in early voting. Coincidence ?
I don’t think so
May 6th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
wife and i voted for ron after work today!
May 6th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
I walked into my polling station (in Indiana) to vote and I was sporting my Ron Paul shirt. Right when I walked in one of the poll workers started pointing at me and walkinbg over to me. Another said “No, that’s indecent!” (meaning my shirt). I was then required to wear jacket to cover up my ‘indecent’ shirt. Apparently you can’t be wearing a shirt that supports a candidate at a polling station. I am a first-time voter, so I didn’t know. It was fine. I got my Paul vote in.
May 6th, 2008 at 6:11 pm
In Raleigh, NC, there was practically no one at the polling place when I went at around 10am. Thank God they used paper ballots. When I submitted my ballot, the counter said there were 318 total votes. Seemed kinda low to me.
May 6th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
Right you can’t advertise your preference on your shirt but the regime can advertise their preferences all up and down the ballot itself when they print it. If advertising inside the precincts shouldn’t be allowed then let’s have blank ballots with just lists of offices on them, no names.
May 6th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
why is Ron Paul losing to Hickabee in Indiana and NC at 8:51 PM?
May 6th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
We had nearly 600 voters at my polling station and I handed our RP info from 6:30 am until 7:30 pm. From the response of those who were GOP or indy’s I at least 50 or so RP votes and maybe another 50 possible RP votes. I only had one McCain supporter and 1 Huck supporter. Most people in my precinct were more interested in our county commisioners race and were supporting a local Dem. My guess is that of the GOP vote we got somewhere near 30-40 %. This is based on reaction to the slim jims. Who knows how the machines will count but in my book the message is making the difference for the future.
I’m sunburned, hungry and wore slap out… G’night y’all, I hope we made a difference!!!
May 6th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
My wife and I had the pleasure of voting for Ron Paul today in High Point, North Carolina. There were no signs for any presidential candidate out at our polling station, and we didn’t have any RP signs or else we would have put them up. Our polling place was extremely busy. A coworker of mine told me today I had inspired him to vote for Ron Paul - one more vote for freedom! Thank you, Ron Paul, for remaining in the race and giving us the choice to vote our conscience and take a stand for truth, principle, and integrity. God bless everyone who has voted for Ron Paul and taken that stand with us… no matter what.
May 6th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
As of now, Ron Paul is taking about 8% of the GOP vote with less than 50% precincts reporting.
May 6th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
To Frank:
You obvioulsy don’t know many evangelicals. Huckabee is their political “savior.”
May 6th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
Looks like two posts I made earlier finally made it out of the filter…….sorry - I didn’t mean to have 4 show up in a row!
Thanks to everyone in Indiana and NC who voted for freedom today! I think these will put us over the 1 million mark, won’t they? Nothing to sneeze at, I’d say!
May 6th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
The whole family (4 of us) voted for Ron Paul near Kannapolis, NC this morning at 10:30 on paper ballots. This is the first time in 61 years I actually felt like my vote meant something, and I hope the roughly 16,000 others who have been counted at this time feel the same way. Both of my children, 25 and 21 years of age, were as excited as my wife and me to vote for Ron! Everyone was very polite and friendly as always in this community, and the only presidential sign I saw was for Ron Paul!
May 6th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
My husband, grown children and I voted this afternoon for Ron. There were RP signs at our precinct and I was number 416. That seemed relatively normal here, maybe even at little high. The turnout was good mostly due to a very high interest in our county commissioners race as Jeff stated above. The only thing that seemed a little odd to me was that when we went in, gave our name and party affiliation and were given our ballots we were handed blue pens to vote with (paper ballots). When I looked over the ballot it plainly stated a black pen was to be used. Needless to say I gathered my husband and daughters pens and went back to the desk to get black ones. The lady told me that either would be fine but I wasn’t taking any chances. Go Ron!!!!!
May 6th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Here’s some good news out of NC (copied & pasted from a ronpaulforum board message posted by HighlandMediaworks):
Jimmy Goodman Won his bid for the Republican Nominee to Macon County, NC Commissioner. He has been a Ron Pauler for 10 years and was inspired to run against an entrenched Republican incumbent. His platform is to have the town meetings video taped and available for the people to review online, also is providing a question answer session on his website (along with the rest of the RP philosophy). We are so happy to see a Ron Paul Seed sprout. There is not a Dem contender for the fall, so looks like he is in!!!
May 6th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
I looked at North Carolina and Ron Paul had his greatest support in areas he campaigned. Again marketing/campaigning #101 is name recogniiton. Get advertizing on the radio, TV in next weeks primaries and let the people know your still running for president. You never know what can happen. Thus I buy lottry tickets, you cannot win unless you participate. Same with being president you cannot win unless you play, who knows what is in store at Nationals.
May 6th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Paper ballots sure make a difference!

I am disappointed in Indiana and North Carolina. I thought that with Pa. showing 16% it would encourge the future primaries to even due better.
I can see why Ron Paul would not want to run on an independent ticket, because the people who are afraid to vote for him now, would use the same excuse and not vote for him in Nov.
How do you expect him to keep up his spirits and continue when he is not getting the support in the polls.
There is no better candidate, so there is no excuse not to vote for him.
May 7th, 2008 at 12:11 am
Last I saw RP got 13.95% of the vote in NC. That’s pretty good. I proudly voted for him today!
Peace

Thank you NC and IN. Keep up the fight, one voter at a time. (As long as the vote is counted)
May 7th, 2008 at 3:45 am
By November, the economy will be so completely shattered, most Americans will be AFRAID to vote for an establishment candidate. They will avoid both Republicans, who control the White House, and Democrats, who control congress. If Ron Paul runs as an independent, he will have a far better chance of winning than he would if he were the GOP nominee with the full support of the media and the Bush administration. There is NO WAY any thinking American wants another Republican puppet Neo-Con in the White House. If Ron Paul runs as an independent, by November, I think his chances of winning will have improved exponentially, in a direct, inverse relationship with the economic downturn.
May 7th, 2008 at 5:02 am
Jeff in Lenoir NC and to all the rest that voted today. You did make a differece today. You stood up to Goliath. And we are learning the system getting RP supporters into small offices. And We are taking back our Republician party one person at a time. Thanks to all who voted for Ron Paul.
May 7th, 2008 at 5:40 am
I am convenced that this whole election is RIGGED!
What else is the news media going to talk their heads off about? IRAQ?
This is all like a dragged out movie and the people need to start pulling the wool away from their eyes

Lawson for Congress won NC seat. 70 percent of the vote!

May 7th, 2008 at 7:15 am
I voted in NC for Ron Paul. Myself and another Ron Paul supporter stood outside the polling station holding Ron Paul signs.
One person that came by asked, “Are you guys it?”
Actually we were the only ones standing outside with signs. There were no Hillary, Obama, McCain, etc. supporters to be found.
We did run a sort of informal exit poll question. “What form of government is the USA?” Most stated “democracy”……we then asked them what you pledge allegiance to in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Light bulb moment! The Republic!…..aha! I think some may have gone home and googled Republic form of government..
Many folks commented that they thought Ron Paul had dropped out. There were NO TV ads for Ron Paul in NC that I ever saw.
May 7th, 2008 at 7:16 am
By the way I am thrilled at BJ Lawson’s success. He is not in my district. If he were I would have voted for him.
Go BJ…..hopefully Ron Paul will have you to assist him in Congress next year!!
May 7th, 2008 at 8:12 am
Happy to report 2 votes cast for Dr. Paul yesterday in Wake Co., and also for BJ Lawson. I am surprised that someone who is cheered for like a rock star (Dr. Paul) didn’t get more votes. We love you, Dr. Paul!
May 7th, 2008 at 8:18 am
Well, I know I shouldn’t be so disappointed but I am. Watching the results come in last night, for district 2 representative in Indiana, it was odd and disappointing. My guy was ahead almost all of the count, which surprised the heck out of me because he only spent $250 on his whole campaign compared to the other guys $250,000+. It was like 46/38 almost the whole time. Then suddenly in the end, it switched. My guy had 33% the other guy had 48%. One county still hasn’t been counted. It just sucks that he was winning the whole night then this jerk pulls it out in the end. he is so phony.
THANK YOU everyone who worked hard in IN and NC. Special thanks to Michiana for Ron Paul meetup. St. Joe county pulled out 10%/2nd place for Ron Paul. McCain got 71% in St. Joe. Our guy for representative was very close, and that is encouraging.

Be 100% assured there was vote fraud. That is the typical pattern. Do you have a paper trail? IF so, force a recount.

Liberty Lover:
It is kinda odd how many of my friends encountered poll workers looking at their vote, as well as optical scanners not taking the ballot in. And polls opening late and closing early. And 3 of my friends voting registration didn’t go through when they had completed it well before the deadline.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:01 am
I don’t understand how two dissimilar states can come up with the same end results.
Is there something the million of us can do to take the media to take the media to task for ignoring us, and our candidate?
This is frustrating the heck out of me.
I ran into someone in Subway during lunch yesterday that told me he liked my button. I always wear a “I support Ron Paul” button. “Too bad he dropped out” he said.
I wanted to scream and cry at the same time!!
I politely told him that Dr Paul is still in the running, I then gave him my pin and some slimjims I had in my car.
He thanked me for the information, and vowed to write in Dr Paul.
Now if the folks running the write in campaign would tell me what I need to do to help get the good Dr on the write in ballot, I would be thrilled.
I’ve emailed one person that said information is forthcoming.
Do we need to clean our own house out before we can clean Washington out.
I’m sorry I’m going past frustrated to peeved.
Must go now.

I worked at one of two polling places in my precinct in Franklin County. I was one of three judges (one republican and two democrat). NC is a 5 to 1 state–overwhelming democrat and my county is also highly democratic. Our polls opened at 6:30am and closed at 7:30pm. We experienced low voter turnout and attribute this to early voting. This was the first year NC began “One Stop Voting”. This began in April and ended May 3rd. People were allowed to vote early during this period. I personally think this is wonderful because it allows people to register and then immediately vote–no hassle with registration deadlines. At my polling place where I worked, everyone votes on a paper ballot and this ballot is fed into a tabulator machine by the voter. McCain received 206 votes and Ron Paul received 49 votes. Concerning provisional ballots, there were 22 total. 80% were democrat. Obama won this precinct too. In all, there were a little over 900 votes cast at this location. As a judge, I was required to remain the enire time inside the voting room except for bathrrom visits. I worked until 9:30pm as it took 2 hours to close out votes, etc. I feel this was a fair election process at this location and I worked among highly proficient people. Afterwards, I headed over to Chapel to celebrates BJ Lawson’s landslide win–truly a huge victory. BJ has been endorsed my Ron Paul and we are thrilled!

There are investigations going on in northern Indiana because of unsecured ballots. Ballots were stacked on a table when the optical scanners stopped accepting the ballots. One woman refused to leave her ballot unsecured and called for oversight. These poll workers know the rules on everything, many have worked the polls for decades.
In another investigation, voters a a polling station in N. Indiana were highly undecided, many spending 10 minutes or more at the booth. Poll workers took it upon themselves to help voters make up their minds. This is a violation of Indiana election laws. I am keeping an eye on Todd Rokita (sec. of state) to see what he does. I expect him to do nothing, but I can hope he does something.
I’ll update if anything happens.
May 7th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
I have a similar experience with Dr. Dave.
A Hillary Clinton worker parked his van in front of my house–I have a Ron Paul sign in my yard–and knocked on my door, perhaps one of the first in my neighborhood.
I asked him what he was doing. Didn’t he see the sign in my yard?
He told me: “Oh, he dropped out…”
And then proceeded to WHINE about how Hillary had been “DISSED” by the media?
DISSED???????
How many people in the United States thought Hillary had dropped out prior to the primaries yesterday?
STOP YOUR WHINING.
I very IMPOLITELY ‘corrected’ him.
For some strange reason, he decided to move his van.

Not THAT overwhelming. In fact, not even 1.4 to 1!

Repugnican share 33

“and my county [Franklin] is also highly democratic.”
True enough. Franklin is the 30th most Demobrat county, with 51%, out of NC’s 100 counties. My county Durham, 60% Demobrat, is 23rd. #1 is Bertie is 82% Demobrats!
I track these things.

Hey Ray,
Thanks for the great link. I stand corrected. The info I posted was recited at my county GOP meeting about one year ago.

Hi… Me and my 3yr old and 10yr old boys campaigned for Ron Paul at our precinct after we voted Tuesday. We handed out slim jims and told them to remember to vote for Ron Paul for president.. So many of the folks had not heard of him. I was amazed and discouraged of how many there were, because they should have researched the candidates before they cast their votes…. And I also asked the McCain voters why they voted for him , what issues did they like about him.. NONE of them knew why.. I was so sad I told them that next time they should know what they are voting for and WHY>>>
My 3yr old chanted “ROn Paul revolution bring us back our Constitution” while handing out slim jims..
it was too precious.. One man there campaigning for Billy Yow asked why I was staying out there for Paul and I said” for my kids and for my country”. My conclusion is that we have way to many folks that are just uninformed. God save America

Ok. So, my mom & dad & my sister went to vote at their precinct in Charlotte, NC on Tuesday (zip 28214). My parents voted early - they were some of the first in line. They went up to the line according to their last name. The lady did not ask them what their affiliation was, & Mom & Dad didn’t know they should offer it up - she assumed that the lady checking her in would know it because of her registration card. Chalk it up to voting day jitters. When they got to the machines, nothing but Democrat names were available for them to vote on. My mom got really upset & said “I have never voted for a Democrat & never will. Where are my Republican choices?” The lady at the voting booths stated, “Ma’am, this is a Democratic primary. You cannot vote for a Republican.” They also told my mother that because the ticket had already been “initiated in the machine”, she could not change anything. Hours later, my sister went to vote at the same precinct. The gentleman in front of her said, “I do NOT WANT TO VOTE DEMOCRAT! I want to vote REPUBLICAN!” The lady there stated, “Sir, this is not a Republican primary, this is a Democratic party.” At which point my sister stated very loudly that this was a Democratic, Republican & Non-partisan primary & she said that she will be calling the state & county board of elections to report this incident. So, for hours & hours, the precinct in zip code 28214 did not allow anyone to vote Republican or Independent. This has been reported by all 3 of my family members, individually, but I thought you would like to know.
I, on the other hand, had no trouble whatsoever, voting for Dr. Paul!
