Campaign for President of the United States

A Scorecard You Won’t Find on Fox News

Supporter Loren C. sends in this excellent summary of what Ron Paul has achieved so far.

A friend of mine asked me tonight, “Should Ron Paul just quit? I never hear of him on the news so he can’t be doing very well today (Super Tuesday).” Here is my reply to him:

I don’t care what the liberal media is saying, he has,

2nd place in Nevada

2nd place in Louisiana (possibly first once they get it sorted out)

2nd place in Montana

2nd place in Maine

3rd place in Utah

3rd place in North Dakota

There is about 21 more states left to vote,

He has plenty of money,

No one has even close to enough delegates to take the nomination,

He has the only true Republican stance on the issues,

He is the only candidate who believes our government should follow ALL of the Constitution,

Quit?

Not even close. Keep fighting, Ron Paul is!

Well said. And while the momentum John McCain has been gaining lately may appear daunting, Ron Paul supporters are the ones who should be least intimidated by it, because as the other, fraudulent alternatives to John McCain fail one by one — Mitt Romney is certainly on the ropes after tonight, especially if, as appears to be the case, he loses California to McCain — the real alternative to McCain-ism, Ron Paul, will only become more attractive to conservative Republican voters.

Indeed, it’s interesting to note that so many of the states McCain won tonight were blue states which any Republican (except the antiwar Dr. Paul) will have a hard, if not impossible, time winning in November. And despite his wins tonight, McCain does not have a majority of Republican National Delegates, so the fight for the nomination is still very much on.

What about AK? Anyone? I just got back from poll watching/observing ballot counting in CA and have not had the chance to vote. Needless to say, extremely frustrated. AND PISSED. We worked so hard - hopefully when they break it down orange county will have a decent showing. As for ballot watching.. I’m thinking overall in orange county things seem to be on the up and up, but I did not feel comfortable at all with the way things were done at the registrars in the room where they upload all the memory cards.. I just see so many different levels where things can go “wrong”..

Quit? No way. Second place and third place in many states and for a candidate that doesn’t exist on tv news, that is something to be very proud of.

I’m optimistic that the message just needs more time and exposure. Not to mention a few dozen more 300+ down days in the stock market to get Republicans’ collective attention.

Danny - it may take Alaska a long time to count the Republican Presidential Preference vote. In Anchorage (>50% of population of state) the ballots were slips of paper with the candidates names printed on them, voters circled their candidate and put them in a cardboard ballot box. It was controlled chaos.

I’m afraid I wasn’t involved in the caucus itself so I don’t know how that part will go. I don’t know if the news will report the results of the Presidential Preference vote or the caucus results. In any case, it’ll take a bit of time to tabulate the preference vote. According to the AK Republican Party website, “Alaska Presidential Preference Vote will determine the number of Delegates pledged to vote for each of the Presidential candidate”.

I love the optimism here. I read that it was said of Ronald Reagan that he was unelectable. That was in March of 1980, the year he won the nomination and election. Miracles do happen. Keep your faith, and keep up the work for freedom, liberty, prosperity and peace. If every other candidate is a puppet and will continue on the same destructive path, then Ron Paul is still the only one we can and need to support.

Many of the potential Paul supporters have probably voted for Romney (with his imperfect flip-flop) as they thought Romney had a better chance of winning and we all know Paul did not even feature in the MSM for several weeks. I say NOT third party/indy (desperate and no use if he cannot win, otherwise Dr. Paul is in the political wilderness with no congress representation), at least not till the next primary as we see how he fares. Remember, there is the result from the New Hampshire recount that should still come out in the next few days? and if there is any positive change (more votes) for us, it would mean a lot (would have meant much more before Super Tuesday of course). Perhaps the best strategy to stick till the RNC and hopefully enough delegates to speak. Romney and Huckabee would probably pull out if they cannot improve considerably this weekend/next week, as they would not have a chance to win, nor the money in the case or Huckabee or the wish to spend more money, in the case of Romney. Dr. Paul could get their delegate’s votes at the conference, even if their candidates endorse say McCain?

If McCain would be nominated as candidate, he will loose badly against probably Clinton, and then the weakened GOP would search for new leadership and especially ideology. This could be the ideal situation for Dr. Paul to step in as a leader and make the change, either as chairman of the RNC etc. This would be a plan B, after plan A (to have Dr. Paul as president).

Question: In Texas it is winner takes all? Dr. Paul would have had more delegates if there were no winner takes all. The GOP need to change to proportional representation in the relevant states. Is there not a senator or governor position Dr. Paul could run for in he future? he deserved such a position a long time ago, and it would be a very good position to a leading GOP figure. If the GOP absolutely does NOT want to change course, then possibly a new Party could be created (need 100 million plus from billionaires or individual voters then) or can take over the Reform Party. The Libertarian Party and Constitutional parties are too small and have too limited appeal. They should rather be integrated into a new party.

Ron Paul should realy start talking to Romney and try to get an endorsment from him when he leaves the race. Romney hates McCain at this point so I think we could get an deal with Romney specialy at the convention if there is no front runner. An endorsment of Thompson would be nice aswell. It would also be cool if the website has a thing that say how many pledge delegates we have, how many super delegates we have and how many national delegates are Ron Paul supporters but might be tied to vote for some one else in the first round.

As a Canadian, I can see perhaps a little more clearly that America, the corporation, has been treating you, the citizen, the way CNN has been treating Ron Paul. Despite a ground-swell of young, intelligent support, he cannot get a moment’s consideration. If ever his name is mentioned, some off-screen pundit will snicker…As though the mere mention of his name had been an incredible waste of everybody’s time. Unfortunately, 90% of you accept this as a truth instead of a massive cover-up/smear by AOL Time Warner. If RP were to win, corporations would not be able to look at you all as units of labour/consumers because you would have your rights returned but he can never win because media has become a dictator of fact as opposed to a reprter of it.

Does anyone remember the story of: “The tortoise and the hare”?

How revolutionary it would be: to elect a true statesman as President, and Commander in Chief, and thereby return an entire nation to it’s people; without one drop of blood shed to do it!

Also, what an example of democracy in action for the entire world!

I am glad Dr. Paul is dedicated to finishing this race, and even if he doesn’t win the GOP nomination, I am aware that I can exercise my right to “write in” my candidate of choice. Even in November 2008. (”Hint, hint”).

While I’m here, I want to thank Dr. Ron Paul for teaching me, and inspiring me, long before this election.

I further request and suggest that, “Not Yours to Give” by Col. David Crockett, be easily accesible from Dr. Paul’s campaign site: as this was my “eye opener” about a government’s role, when I read it on his House of Representatives site several years ago. I think it would clarify the role of politics and taxes for citizens and voters, and get “TV thinkers” thinking for themselves, outside the rhetoric on the “boob tube”.

I believe that the “money bombs”, and awesome individual campaign contributions, testify to the generosity of the American public, when we are convinced that what is ours to give is well worth giving.

    Hello ALL.
I just want to drop a note here for all good people who worked hard through this day and may feel down.

First of all do not try to suppress your unhappiness if you feel unhappy at the moment. Let it be and let it work itself out. There’s no need to waste emotional energy fighting yourself.

    Second.
I just want to remind you about what kind of stone wall we are facing here.
It’s not just Corparate Media, but it is also the very people who have been misled for so many years and and succesfully enslaved.
I am sure that many of you were one of those peole (maybe even not so long time ago ;) ). I was myself one of them.
Many of us thought that we were conservative without knowing what true conservatism is.

    Here’s the clip:

    *********
and then realise again, that many many many (- I don’t know how many, but must be a lot! :( ) - let’s say, majority of republicans think and breath just like “Mr. Golfer” (shall I mention, that we have no way of knowing what Mr. Golfer really thinks ;) ), and they do it with conviction and most importantly - they do it with PRIDE.
You can’t just tell them something like: “Hey, Folks, Rush is not a true conservative, - he is a corporatist” and expect a “result”. If you do just that, you will only anger them and make them think that you are some sort of liberal snake.
It will take enormous effort and time and maybe something else more significant.
In a sense, We are here just at the point of screaming: “I am MAD AS HELL!” …

First, I want to thank all of you for giving so much, and working so hard. It is nice to know that we are not alone. It is hard to witness the deterioration of our once great country and we all know that Dr. Paul is the person who can salvage what’s left and give us hope for tomorrow. We must continue to fight.

Second, I want to remind everyone that this campaign is about more than the 2008 election. We need to keep fighting well after the election is over, even if Dr. Paul does not get the nomination. When Dr. Paul chose to run for president, it was simply one more deed in a long history of freedom fighting. Come next year, if he is not president, you know he will be continuing the fight in other ways and keeping hope alive. We need to make sure that we are not only signed up for the 2008 presidential campaign, but for the lifetime freedom campaign. We need to relentlessly keep fighting for liberty, getting behind leaders like Dr. Paul - and hopefully soon his son Rand.

We have something going for us that the other candidates, from either party, do not have: the truth and a cause that, once understood is undeniable and worth fighting for. I am regularly finding that once people finally stop, listen and honestly consider Dr. Paul’s message, they are hooked. It’s as if the lights finally go on and they see everything anew. Once someone has that revelation, they never turn back and they are a supporter for life.

On the other hand, when someone falls for the typical party candidates, they generally do so out of party loyalty, apathy, the desire to simply vote against someone else, or because of the same old rhetoric coming from a new face. These people are merely waiting for the next big thing, the new pied piper. They are continually chasing “change” and “a dream” even though not a single one of them can tell you what that change or dream is - the candidate included.

The point is, we can work hard to build this momentum not only through to November, but through to 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. When the polls come out four years from now and they say we have 10% instead of 5% or 30% instead of 15% we will know it was due to our hard work and the efforts of great patriots like Dr. Paul who did not stop the fight come November, but continued to battle, each and every day, never giving up, so that our children and out grandchildren could live in a free United States.

Let me also remind many of you to get down on your knees and pray. There has perhaps never been a time when a great revival and revolution was more necessary. Peace and liberty instead of bloodshed and fascism - that is something we can all confidently pray for.

In any case, the Hildebeest and her hubby Bilious will spare no effort in attacking and smearing McCain and Romney at this point (not at all difficult considering the baggage they carry), quite possibly rendering both unelectable. One can be positive and realistic at the same time. These two are not mutually exculsive. In fact, IMO the more you face reality and change your strategy to meet reality, the greater the chance that your enthusiasm and positive attitude can be directed at winning.

Several others here on this forum also see like myself that our best strategy is to run on the Constitution Party ticket. Offer a promise to Thompson that in a Paul Presidency, he will be the Attorney Geneal with a mandate to go after the corrupt MSM and corproate elite. Offer Romney to be the Specail Asst for Government Downsizing and Reorganization. Offer Huckabee to be the Special asst for REBuilding an Educational System where God is NOT excluded from the public school culture.

I think part of Huckabee’s success yesterday was that he got to speak during the last debate. He was able to make his points and I thought he looked pretty good. If only Ron would be allowed time enough to speak and give his position on the issues, he’d do much better. Many people are voting for goofy reasons: “There’s a woman! I’m a woman! I’m going to vote for her!”, or “There’s a minority! I’m a minority! I’m going to vote for him!”, or “I voted for him in 2000! He’s running again! I’m going to vote for him again!”, or “I’m a retiree. I’ve always voted Democrat! Republicans try to take my entitlements!”

The bottom line is EDUCATION. We must patiently explain the real issues to them. Don’t belittle them for supporting the other candidates!!

We must spread Ron Paul’s positive message and not be fearful of the issues he’s brought up (such as national sovereignty). Ad Dr. Paul has said before, no country is going to invade us. With our 1st and 2nd amendments still available, we the people have nothing to fear during this campaign year.

My dad, who is a life-long Democrat (and dependent on S.S. and his military retirement), would vote for Ron Paul in November — this shows his appeal when you talk about his message on saving money on foreign policy in order to save entitlements for those generations who are dependent on it.

My mom, who was also a life-long Democrat (and is dependent on S.S.), was persuaded by me to SWITCH to Republican JUST FOR Ron Paul during this election, so that she could caucus for Ron Paul. I simply explained to her that Ron Paul’s message won’t go away even if he doesn’t become President this year. I told her that I would have to fight for my freedom and the future generations’ freedom long after she’s dead.

    Peace! Go Ron Paul!

Honestly, I was crushed seeing all the numbers last night. I totally support RP and talk to anyone who will listen about his message, but it’s extremely hard to have hope right now. I think things could have been done a lot better to get his name out there. In the debates, whether people liked it or not, he should have been in there attacking the other candidates stances on issues like crazy if that’s what it takes to get some coverage, instead of being the humble nice guy all the time. That’s how you get noticed on all the “news” channels. Meh. Maybe now he’ll see that he has to get really tough to make himself known. Whether or not it will be enough now remains to be seen.

I have never been interested in politics. I feel like this is our only chance to get back to the way this country is supposed to be. If we all ran our own households like the government, we would all be bankrupt. How is it that the government thinks it can do it? I know that Dr. Paul has said that he would not run on an Independent ticket and I understand because he is truely a Republican. (His initials are REP) I think that we should have a write in campaign if he doesn’t get the nomination and I thought of a slogan. What do you think? RON IS RIGHT! WRITE RON PAUL!

Many many have joined us too late to make a difference in their primaries…. but think what we could do in the next 9 Months!!!! But we need 9 months. If we take it to the convention…and our thwarted by the GOP system which loaths us… it will be too late.

Honestly, I think that things are going perfectly. I was unhappy with a few things in the MSM but who isn’t? In my local paper, they mentioned 4 Candidates for the Republican ticket, but only mentioned the positions of 3 of them. On the local radio as they read results, they always left out a certain candidate and did not mention his name once. I had to use my math skills to figure out the results. Even with that said, I have realized that Ron is a temperature gage. I think that there is much to hope for. There is a larger amount of people then I thought would wake up, and that is reassuring. One thing that the radio did mention was that Bill Clinton was in 3rd and 5th in many states, and he came out of no where and got the nomination 16 years ago. As soon as I heard that, I just had this feeling, that things are going precisely as they need to.

I am one of those supporters that will never back down, not now that I know what I know. I am also going to support local leaders that also love Ron, specifically Jim Guest who is running for governor. I have only begun to fight, and I will wear out my life doing so. There is nothing greater to give my children and their children, then liberty.

Great to see the positive vibe here. I’m Canadian and would love to be able to support this campaign besides being a cheerleader up north.

I would just like to offer an observation or thought on what is going on.

The Republican party has become the party of warmongerers. Thus, appealing to Republican voters as they are today is a MAJOR uphill battle. It is my view that Dr. Paul’s greatest chance for success comes as the only real anti-war candidate. This combined with the economic argument that vastly reducing America’s foreign military presence would result in enough savings to eliminate personal income taxes is a powerful message.

What I’m saying is that the appeal of Dr. Paul’s message must transcend partisan lines, but to do so requires a simplication of that message. Namely, by moving away from an arcane (but very compelling) discussion of monetary policy and reducing the size of government elsewhere (which will repell a lot of the anti-war vote). I’m not saying that those elements of the platform be dropped, but rather that they be pushed to the margins of the message.

This would, imo, increase the appeal to the broader anti-war electorate. I know you’re working within the Republican party at this stage of the game, but should it not be a major objective to bring new blood into the Party — i.e., non-warmongering independents or Republicans on the sidelines? Toning down some of the other messaging could go along way towards achieving this.

Just some thoughts, hope they can be helpful.

    Response to Aubrey,
I would not count on getting an edorsement from Romney. Romney is one of those who does not take RP seriously, disagrees with his platforms, and outright laughs at him.
We would have a much better chance of getting an endorsement from Huckabee, because like him, Ron is a Christian, for one thing. And Huckabee has never come out against Ron. If anything, if you watch Huckabee when Ron talks in the debates… he actually appears to be listening, and respecting what Ron is saying. He even has started sounding more like Ron in the past couple of debates.
Perhaps they might even look pretty good on an independent ticket together at this point.

Ruth was a woman who left EVERTHING to follow where she knew the Lord was leading. And even though everything looked mightly slim when she first got to her new land, SHE DID WHAT SHE KNEW WAS RIGHT and was blessed. Even today we know the Biblical name of Ruth. Come on, Ruth!!! There is no reason we as an American people need to settle for a lesser of two evils! If we do not stand up on principle and DO THE RIGHT THING in this generation, the next generation will be even deeper in the mire! You know this deep inside…so why settle for less? I am a conservative Christian, who attended a small Mennonite school, worked with the Amish, and never paid one bit of attention to politics before in my life. This year I have registered to vote. OH primaries are not until March and I will continue to promote the candidate who has a history of fiscal responsibility, a humble attitude toward the rest ot he world, and stands for freedom of conscience. No one else, not even Huckabee who calls himself a Christian, has the record of Ron Paul. I am afraid that there is no sincerity in Huckabee..and the way he runs his campaign today is the same way he ran his church…high on emotionalism and sensationalism but not able to stand up for the truth with a clean record. This year I have registered to vote. But my conscience won’t allow me to settle for less than best. All I can do is give it my best shot and if Ron Paul loses I will still have a clean conscience. If Hillary and Bill end up in the White House taking in TWO PRESIDENTIAL salaries, etc. out of my tax money, at least I know I spoke up for the right by voting for Ron Paul. There is no other candidate worth my time. I cannot, out of principle, vote for second best. Anyone who does should be ashamed of themselves. The captain never leaves a sinking ship. The general lays down to die with his defeated army. At least that is the way of history! Today? it is the philosophy of “if it feels good it must be right”. “If it is working, do it.” A bunch of hot-air and temporary ‘highs’, but unfortunately, that is not the proven record to success. Come on everyone!

Dawn breakes on the battle field, as the smoke clears one thing is truly evident, the nay sayers and the corperate media puff themselves up, saying “see we told you so”. But what is evident is our weaknesses, this is the way of every strugle known to man. Now we lick our wounds, collect our pieces, and come back twice as strong. If the media wont pay attention, we push harder, and louder. Far to many people in this country still have not heard of GENERAL PAUL, and the NEW REVOLUTION. Time is now for every one of us to become galvanized. That’s millions of US. Exponentialy we can increase our numbers, and wether it be in the GOP or Independent, we can still win this war. I agree with Aubrey. We should try to make a deal with Romney that he’ll endorse Ron Paul if he drops out. It appears there is no love lost between McCain and Romney. Huckabee has also been going after Romney with the insults for weeks. All of the pundits have been saying that “a vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain”. (See the Colbert Report from Monday night — it’s really funny.) If Romeny’s camp blames Huckabee for their loss to McCain, they might support us. Dr. Paul has been a gentlemen the whole race and so probably hasn’t made an enemy.

Also, the Romney voters are supposed to be voting for him because he is a “conservative” and because of his business experience. We have a strong argument that Dr. Paul is the real conservative based on his consistent record of being pro-life, pro-Constitution, and a fiscal conservative.

Romney says he is the candidate who can best handle the economy because of his “real world” business experience and because he ran the Massachusetts economy while governor. However, we know that Dr. Paul is THE expert on the economy. We must emphasize Dr. Paul’s experience. Not only does he have “real world” experience running his own business as a doctor, but, more importantly, in Congress, he serves on the:

    * Committee on Financial Services
o as Ranking Member - Subcommittee on Domestic and International Monetary Policy, Trade and Technology
o Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigation
    * Committee on Foreign Affairs
o Subcommittee on International Organizations, Human Rights and Oversight
    o Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere
    * Joint Economic Committee

The hardest part will be convincing them that we can’t afford the war, but we can and must do this. There was a good article in the Financial Times on August 14, 2007 in which the Comptroller General of the US compares the current economic problems with the fall of Rome. It sounds like what Ron Paul has been saying. Unfortunately, the article says that the Comptroller General will not inform the Presidential Candidates of his findings until this Spring, too late to make a difference in the primaries/caucuses. Therefore, it is up to us to bring this to the attention of the American people.

Here is a link to the article:

Learn from the Fall of Rome, US Warned
    http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/80fa0a2c-49ef-11dc-9ffe-0000779fd2ac.html

There is a limited number of free viewings on the Financial Times per month. If you can’t view the article, either run a search on Google “Financial Times Comptroller General August 2007 Rome” or sign up for the free subscription to view it.

Finally, we need to get the word out that Dr. Paul is the ONLY Republican who can beat the Democrats in the fall. Would they rather put up a pro-war candidate who will surely lose to a Democrat because 70% of the American people are anti-war. Then, we’ll be stuck with all of the additional programs and spending the Democrats want, which will drive our economy further into the ground. Wouldn’t they rather have Ron Paul in charge? If the war will be ended anyway, wouldn’t we, as Republicans, rather have our guy in the White House? A man who has a strong pro-life record, is fiscally conservative, and will protect our Constitutional rights.

    Dan,

If it is possible, could you put the Financial Times article on the campaign’s website since it supports Dr. Paul’s view of us not being able to afford the war and heading for an economic collapse if we don’t change our ways? I would hope this statement by the Comptroller General would convince other Republicans to join us. I wrote an e-mail to the campaign awhile ago asking that Dr. Paul mention this when talking about the economy. It would have gotten a lot of exposure if he had talked about it during the debates. We need to appeal to the economic sensibilities of conservative Republicans.

    Thanks!

    Laura

FEAR NOT! THIS IS THE BEST THING THAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED! Consider: Romney and Huckabee will soon be FORCED to drop out, either in the immediate future or at the Republican convention. Then McCain will become the Republican nominee and SPLIT the Republican Party. In fact, people are already saying they’d rather vote for Hillary than McCain. Then WHOM do you think will be left to pick up the votes of all those disgruntled Republican voters? Answer: RON PAUL. Even if Ron Paul does not become president, his strong showing on November 4th will send a huge message to the Republican Party and the Neocons. THINGS WILL CHANGE! And more freedom-loving candidates will start running for office. THIS IS THE THE TIME TO GO ALL OUT. Never give up. Never surrender. WE WILL EVENTUALLY WIN.

Some of the state votes in the Super Tuesday election were nothing more than beauty contests. The REAL action was in the election of the delegates that go to the state conventions to elect the actual delegates for the National Convention.

In my precinct caucus in Moorhead, MN, the beauty contest straw-poll vote for the candidates yielded 11 votes for Huckebee, 10 votes for Paul, 7 for Romney, and 4 for McCain. HOWEVER, ALL FOUR DELEGATES elected to go to the state convention were Ron Paul delegates! Of the alternate delegates elected, two were Ron Paul supporters, one was for McCain, and one was undecided between McCain and Romney.

    Ron Paul kicked ***!!!

The media doesn’t know the actual delegate results, but the Ron Paul Campaign does…..as almost every precinct had a Ron Paul captain that emailed the campaign with the results. I believe Ron Paul did very, very well in Minnesota last night!

North Dakota’s vote is similar to Minnesota. The popular vote was a beauty contest. ND has an added requirement that to get delegates, the popular vote for that candidate must be at least 15% — Paul got 21%. The RP meetup groups in both states were highly organized, and while we don’t know the actual delegate count yet, it is going to be great!

    Keep the faith…..

Will somebody please tell me where Dr. Paul is spending all this money we’ve sent him. I’ve yet to see one single television ad. Most all of the candidates hit the airwaves on CNN, FAUX, MSNBC, etc. And, guess what, they got lots of votes on February 5th.

Just who is in charge of Dr. Paul’s advertising campaign and when do they plan on spending the money on effective ads that will get him some votes before there’s zero chance of it mattering? I’m getting pretty tired of people saying, “Who?”, when I mention Dr. Paul’s name.

We all say we need to get the word out about Dr. Paul. Isn’t that a big part of the job of Dr. Paul’s campaign? We, as individuals can only do so much. That’s why we all sent him money, so he could get the word out. Guess what, the results of the voting show he’s failed miserably and we can’t blame the media for it. They’d have to run his ads if his campaign bothered to put any together to run on television.
